Langenuen

The alternatives have main spans ranging from 1,165m to 1,550m. If the longest alternative had been completed today, it would have been the 7th longest bridge span in the world!

Assignment

As part of the ferry-free E39 project, several long fjord crossings are planned. Langenuen is one of these crossing locations.

Solution

Langenuen is a four-lane suspension bridge with a pedestrian and bicycle path that is being evaluated as part of the ferry-free E39 project. Norconsult has conducted a preliminary project for the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Region West, which has assessed three possible crossings of the Langenuen fjord. The preliminary project is a feasibility study that includes drawing and illustrations of the crossing alternatives, cost assessments, and preliminary calculations of critical wind speed (flutter analysis) for the suspension bridge alternatives.
