The Group has worked systematically to cut emissions across its operations. Since 2016, its greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory has been used to identify improvement areas and track progress. The SBTi approval supports Norconsult Group’s long-term ambition of “sustainability in everything we do”.
“The SBTi approval confirms that our emissions reduction targets are aligned with ambitions to limit global warming to 1.5°C in the Paris Agreement. While our greatest impact comes through the solutions we deliver with clients, reducing emissions from our own operations remains essential. The approval strengthens our commitment to continuous improvement,” says Egil Hogna, CEO of Norconsult.”
Impact through client projects
Norconsult Group’s greatest climate impact lies in the solutions developed for clients. The targets are built on the Group’s ongoing work to improve project delivery and develop more sustainable solutions for buildings, infrastructure, and society.
Norconsult Group’s greenhouse gas inventory is in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), which classifies emissions into Scope 1 (direct emissions from vehicles and machinery), Scope 2 (energy use in offices) and Scope 3 (indirect emissions such as procurement and business travel).
The Norconsult Group has committed to:
-
Scope 1 (direct emissions) and scope 2 (energy-related emissions): 63 % reduction of absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emission by 2035
-
Scope 3 (indirect emissions): 66 % reduction in scope 3 GHG emission per FTE by 2035.
Supplier engagement: 45 % of suppliers (by emissions) will have science-based targets by 2030.
The Group will implement measures across all operations and track progress through annual reviews and reporting.
About the Science Based Targets initiative
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a corporate climate action organisation that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. They develop standards, tools and guidance which allow companies to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions targets in line with what is needed to keep global heating below catastrophic levels and reach net-zero by 2050 at latest.
The SBTi is incorporated as a charity, with a subsidiary which that host the target validation services. SBTis partners are CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the We Mean Business Coalition, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
