The project is part of Driva Kraftverk’s strategy to boost renewable power generation and enhance flexibility within the Norwegian power system. Driva Kraftverk is owned by TrønderEnergi Kraft AS (75 per cent) and Istad Kraft AS (25 per cent), with TrønderEnergi acting as operator and project developer.
The new power plant will utilise the reservoir of the existing Driva facility and discharge water into the fjord near Sunndalsøra. Norconsult’s assignment includes developing the technical solutions that will form the basis for further planning, impact assessments and decision-making.
"With the development of Nedre Driva, we are modernising a power plant dating from 1973 and seeking to double the annual production from 600 to 1,200 GWh. The development will include a new complementary plant with an additional 91 metres of head, also discharging in to the fjord, that will deliver greater capacity and improved water resource utilisation – benefiting the local community, the power system and green industrial development.
We are delighted that Norconsult will contribute it’s extensive experience from complex hydropower projects and work closely with us on the concept development of Nedre Driva," says Børge Nilssen Stafne, Project Manager at TrønderEnergi.
The power plant is among the largest of the new hydropower projects currently under consideration in Norway.
